When it comes to music, I am an equal oppourtunity listener. I enjoy female singers as much as male singers, but there is one area where the girls are under-represented. What area might that be? Well, it seems that as far as I can remember, there have been great male guitar players. Just to throw a couple out there, you have Slash, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai, I could go on and on. What did you notice about that list? There are no girl guitar players. Sure, girls can strum a guitar, but where are the girls that make the instrument come to life?
There seems to be a great void of female guitar players out there? Why is there a lack of girl players? It could be that extra long finger nails makes it hard to fret a guitar, but I doubt that it would be an obstacle to a determined person.Who can think of some players? I know of just a couple, but I won't mention, just to see if someone comes up with any. Believe me it is only a handful... In general, the few girl players that I know of, are not nearly as recognized as their male counterparts. Are girls in general not good guitar players? Perhaps the guitar is a masculine object, therefore is taken up more by guys than girls. Obviously, I don't have all the answers, but it is something that I have noticed. What do you think?
